Telegraph Harbor Inn Equestrian Centre (Thetis Island) is happy to offer riding lessons with our Equine Canada certified coach's Jessica Vanderhoef and Ms. Shirley Burr. We offer a fun friendly atmosphere with safety and learning as our main component. Whether you’re interested in learning to ride for the first time; or looking to improve your skills, we offer lessons to all ages and levels of riders.

Jessica Vanderhoef

EC Certified Level One Coach

Growing up in the Upper Squamish Valley Jessica gained experience taking lessons and competing in local equitation shows. In 2002 she moved to Vancouver Island to study at Vancouver Island University, where she received a BA majoring in Finance and a minor in Visual Arts. While attending University Jessica trained and learned from Shirley Burr on Thetis Island. She spent the next few years earning her coaching certification. At this time she also competed successfully in many dressage competitions. Jessica has a passion for horses and takes great pleasure in teaching.

Ms. Shirley Burr

EC Certified Level Two Coach

Ms. Shirley Burr (pictured above with student Ginny Mclane) is available for lessons to mature students on a limited basis only. She specializes in establishing correct and effective training methods for both horse and rider. Shirley is an Equine Canada Level Two Coach and a British Horse Society Certified Preliminary Instructor. She also holds a Pony Club "A" Level. Shirley was formerly the Director of the Equestrian Programme at Queen Margaret's School in Duncan, B.C.

School horse lessons: $30 per one hour lesson

Off Island lessons: $35 per one hour lesson

Off Island lessons are offered with Jessica Vanderhoef, and do not include applicable facility fees or use of a lesson horse. Travel distance is commonly between Chemainus and Lantzville.
